My mom is getting me a dog, but I can't decide what breed I should get! I'm the kind of girl who wants a small,glamorous dog. Big dogs are not for me, so if you guys and girls know of any small, cute dogs for me... Please tell me!! ;)

"glamorous" My little mixed pom and chi mix feel glamorous because they are treated like a little king and queen just letting you know that head held high and tail in the air is all that is required for glamor.

1st you need to be choosing the right dog for your situation and if there are a lot of little kids running around chances are a tiny delicate dog would not be a good idea for instances chihaui, rat terriers are really afraid of young children and will shake and hide in their presence.

If I do, who will care for the dog?
Can I interact with the dog at lease three times a day?
Will it matter if it sheds a lot of fur?Am I prepared for unexpected expenses if the dog gets sick?
Can I afford ordinary costs for such necessities as worming, vaccinations and spay/neutering?
Where will I exercise the dog twice a day?
Am I knowledgeable about housetraining and basic commands?
If there are lots of visitors to my house will the dog be trustworthy and friendly?
Will it adapt to the pets I already own?
And how will my current pets accept a new housemate?
Will the dog be predominantly indoors or out?

Am I the quiet, sleepy type or are all my ancestors hunting dogs?
How much food will my owners have to buy?


It is really very important to strive for the correct match because if you have to give up a dog because of "circumstances" you will not feel good about it. It will be a very emotional experience to have to give away a dog you have lived with and grown to like. In addition it can be a tough transition for the dog to have to enter an entirely new environment. Do your best to make that first choice the right one. Please do not get a dog as an accessory. Get an animal that you can take care of, and that you have the means to take care of. Small dogs are great companions, but they require a lot of attention and training. So make sure that you have plenty of time for training.

Study a lot of breeds before you decide on one. "Glamorous" is not the most important trait to be considering. How much exercise are you willing to do each day? A rule of thumb is that the smaller the dog, the more exercise it will need. How much grooming are you willing to do? How much are you willing to pay for the dog? Are you aware of the health problems associated with the different breeds that you are considering? Are there small children or small animals in the household? How noisy is the breed in general? All of those are much more important questions to be asking than what the dog looks like.
