Bachelor Pad in Need of Change
Hi,
I tried to upload three pictures of the situation but couldn't get it to do so on here. So this is what I am going to do. Im basically at home with nothing to do, and need some advice, just simple ideas. Lovely home, very lovely home, but I faced the fact that it is a Bachelor's pad! For a while now he has wanted me to decorate or redo... paint, change the bedding, etc, whatever is necessary really. I have the slightest bit of decorating in me when in comes to this! My main project, is the Master Bedroom. It is a kind of older style brick home, the bedroom walls are a LSU purple, and the furniture is a dark cherry wood, the bedding is (Im not sure what you call it) the deer head pattern that you see every male with...
Let me make this short, I am just looking for someone that is interested in giving out ideas of any sort, on this project money is not an option, but just plain and simple, but elegant is the key. Thanks, A Very Pregnant

Nothing to do with decorating but I think it's dangerous to post this much info - pregnant, 3 year old, the city where you live - with your email address.
All sorts of crazy people out there -

Sure, not a problem.
I had the opposite problem - my husband moved into my house when we married. I never thought the master bedroom was feminine but he did; of course, as you said, his bedroom in his condo was furnished in Early Testosterone with photographs he took THUMBTACKED to the walls and (literally) black out drapes and a h-u-g-e TV.
We ended up with a very light green on the walls and navy/beige/light green bedding and navy drapes, off white carpeting. He didn't feel it looked "girly" and I didn't feel like I was sleeping in a hunting lodge.
In retrospect we had 3 big dogs at that time (2 now) and light carpeting and big dogs are NOT a good mix.
We got dark bedroom furniture, sort of darker than cherry, and I like the look. Also rear of house faces East so it's a sunny room and the colors make it appear "warm."

He also has a massive dog that is in the house, the wood floors throughout the house help... I think I would like a clay type color...

Something the color of dog footprints, perhaps - ?
I would have preferred hardwood floors with throw rugs (because I think they are easier to keep clean and dust free) but I'm stuck with carpeting in the bedrooms.
I think the master bedroom should be someplace relaxing and comfortable and calming - sort of depends on the colors you like, what relaxes you.
I have a small bookcase on my side of the bed because I'm an avid reader.

I had the idea of painting 3 walls one color and the 4th wall that the bed is centered at, paint it a entire different color??
I like neutrals...
I like to read but mostly magazines.
The walls are blank and bland with nothing on them, and the small bathroom matches the bedding in the bedroom!

If you notice my profile pic, that is the exit to the bedroom, and the entrance to the bathroom, in front of me is a mirror that covers the wall and sink. The maroon curtain is what is in the bedroom with the deer heads on it... small pic sorry

With a small child you probably barely have time to read magazines!
I like the 4th wall painted another color, sort of like a headboard wall. Maybe something in the same color family as the other 3 but a different shade - ?
Or I see a lot of homes with that 1 wall wallpapered.
I don't want anything too bright in the bedroom. Honestly, I'm walking into the bedroom to see what's on the walls -
OK, I'm back - large mirror over dresser on one wall, 4 flower prints, 1 oil painting. I took a lot of time picking out the prints and painting because I pretty much knew what I wanted and what colors and had to find exactly the right things!
My master bathroom is beige and a very light blue. Sounds horrible but it doesn't contrast with the green bedroom.
I find Good Housekeeping magazine often has some nice rooms, decorating tips -

This is really hard to do online. It's best to meet with someone that can come over and see the room and talk to you to find out what you like. There would be too much typing involved here. I am getting ready to retire from my present jjob and get into home renovations and designs and I can't see myself doing the designing online without first meeting the person. I would just get some magazines to get some ideas.

I thought she was asking for suggestions - I wasn't attempting to "design on line."

"Every post, even the worst ones [sic], tell [sic] you something about the person who posts it."
It tells me she doesn't have a clue of what to do and I won't force my decorating ideas on anyone. She needs to buy a print she likes and base her wall colors and bed linen off that for a start.

I appreciate all the help JudyKayTee...
That was the main reason I posted this, I love askmehelpdesk.com...
All of you ideas, and suggestions are a great help, and informing me about what you did personally is even more of big help!
Anyway...
As of right now there is nothing on the walls. I would like something, just like you, something simple, nothing to clutter the walls. The idea that I had of the walls, was where the headboard is to be the "different" color, and the other three walls would be the same color, I think that I worded that wrong. I like the idea of a dark room, because the sun does come in the window.. so its like one of those shades that you cannot see through at all... don't know how else to explain that one.
I would like the color to be a clay type color, maybe a little more brown in it then red, but what other color would you suggest you would go with that? Because the bedding is going to be something that goes well with the wall colors...
Again the floors are hardwood, and the furniture in the bedroom at dark cherry... just 2 night stands, sleigh bed, armoir... um that's it...
What kind of paintings or theme did you go with?
Again, thanks for your help I really appreciate your suggestions.

I don't know if you ever want daylight in the room but I bought some shades that are almost 100% blackout and then light blocking drapes to go over them. My husband liked a dark room when he slept.
I think if you're talking - well, let's see, clay can have more or less red in it. Maybe beige, blue (various shades, I would think), yellow (but that can be cloying). When I was picking colors I went to the paint store and brought home all those chips and hung them all over the room. It's not much help but it is some help - I did find that the color on the walls is darker than the chips, though.
I also did a cream in my livingroom - wonder how that would go with clay?
I have flower watercolors in my bedroom and an oil painting my parents had done when I was a child. Maybe it's just me but I'm not much for big displays of myself in the "public areas" of my home.
I have a rather stark black and white pen and ink sketch of a tree in winter in my family room that used to be in the bedroom as well as an oil paining of a seascape. Took me forever to find a seascape that I liked.
