    Fan motor hums after installation.
My son and I installed a new Hunter ceiling fan and it made a humming sound when power was turned on. We know that it is not a defective motor because we took the fan down and put it in another room and it made no noise. We installed the same model Hunter fan (new) in the original location and it also hummed. The noise is not a constant decibel level but rises and falls like a sine wave. I did a line check and got a 115V read on the black wire which we wired hot to the fan. A light fixture was originally mounted where the fan was located.

    Any ideas?

Did you use the rummer grommits when you mounted it? Is it a hugger fan? What parts of the fan contact the ceiling?

    OR

What controls the fan? A wall switch?
