Hello,

My name is Trina Pierrelouis and I'm a victim of domestic violence and my 2 children where murdered by their father and then he murdered himself January 1, 2006. I'm blessed to be able to continue on with my life. I'm getting married May 30, 2009 and my fiancé loves me so much that he wants my children to have his name. I thought that was very sweet but I didn't know if it's possible. Does anyone know?

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss and the saddness you've had in your life.

I do have one question. You say that your two children were murdered, why do you want to go through the time and expense of having their names changed?

(1). I'm getting rid of my last name (Pierrelouis), and I want them to have my last name.
(2). I have already picked out my burial plot in between them and the last name that's present on the tombstone is their father's name. (3). If I decided to have more children, there want be so many question concerning the death of their sister and brother, because they too will have the same last name.

I don't know much about the law, but I would venture to guess that going through adoption proceedings for the dead won't be easy, might even be impossible. You're ex-husbands family probably won't agree to this, and I think they may have a say in this, that's just a guess though. I understand why, but it will most likely be a hard expensive journey to take. I suggest that you speak to an attorney about this.

There are other people on this site who know allot about the law, just hang on, hopefully one of them will see your thread and be able to give you an accurate answer.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

What you want, if at all possible, would be prohibitively expensive.

I'm not a lawyer, and you'll probably have to consult one to go forward with this, but I would think it impossible to do.

As far as questions future children may or may not have about dead siblings--well, that was from a different relationship, so of course they'd have a different last name. That happens all the time, you know.

While I understand wanting to deny your children's murderer the right to have his children named after him--I sincerely doubt this could be done.

Who owns the tombstones? You may be able to have the new last name added on the stones.
