    1998 Pontiac Grand Prix
For the past 3 weeks I have been having problems with my 98 Grand Prix. The ignition module and coil has been changed along with some sensors and I am still being stranded and having to get the car towed with the mechanics finding nothing wrong. My husband changed the fuel filter and I got up this morning and the car would not start. Do you have any ideas of what the problem could be?

. Test all under-dash and under-hood fuses with a test light or multimeter. Here's how:

    . Test for codes.

    . Test for spark.

. Test for fuel. Can you hear the fuel pump (in the gas tank) run, when the ignition switch is turned to on, not start? Repeat this 3 times, to ensure the fuel rail is fully pressurized.

    . Clean main ECU ground.

. Disconnect the negative battery cable for 15 seconds, in order to reset the ECU and force it to relearn everything. Sometimes, this simple step eliminates intermittent electrical problems. Record any radio codes first.

. Disconnect tachometer wire (if equipped). A shorted tachometer can prevent the vehicle from starting.

. Check ignition switch for wear, pitting, or melting.

You have done a good job of zeroing-in on many of the problematic components; e.g. the Ignition Control Module, coil, sensors, and fuel filter. If none of the above tests sheds light on the problem, I would focus on the ECU--they are not "bulletproof."
