    Gas furnace connection
    :confused: help! My friend's gas furnace died... luckily, he had a complete furnace unit given to him... he has it disconnected and at his trailer, but it is not hooked up to his gas lines and ductwork, etc. he's kind of scared of it... but he really is handy, and can probably hook it up... we're just wanting to make sure that it is just a matter of hooking it up, connecting everything, electric, too, for the pilot... is there any special instruction, or helpful hints, or just..? Thanks so much for any advice!:eek:

    If this is in a mobile home the install is pretty easy, just pay close attention to how the old one comes out. No flex gas lines going through the floor or side of the furnace, must be hard piped. Inside the furnace itself you can make the final connection with a flex gas line. You should also check the condition of the roof jack (chimney) They are easy to damage when you remove the old furnace if it is not already rusted out. Either way it is standard practice to replace it on all new installs. The new furnace also must be made for a mobile home, not a residential model.

    To piggy back on Northerheats answer, be very very careful with the venting and combustion air needed for furnaces to operate properly. Furnaces in MH are often installed in closets with combustion air being supplied from the outside. If someone has given you a furnace most likely it is an older model that will be drawing its combustion air from inside the structure. You must supply a proper amount of air or the unit will not burn properly and or could spill combustion products (co) into your living space. And that is bad. You can install a furnace yourself but do some code research and keep yourself safe and alive...
