Shower diverter
I have no idea what kind of shower diverter I have, is there a universal one? All I do know is that mine is stripped and needs replaced.:)

Diverter can be mounted on spout ( as shown in drawing above ), it can be part of your faucet, or dedicated valve somewhere on the wall. It can divert water to one, two, or three outlets. Which one do you have ?

Ok maybe I am confusing you and myself:) The handle in between the hot and cold handles is stripped, when I turn it to turn the tub on it is stripped, so we can only take a shower and not a bath... Sorry maybe it isn't called a diverter afterall:)

Yes, that's a diverter valve. These can be rebuilt or they can be replaced. If you turn it and it does not work, it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. If it just doesn't turn it is probably because the teeth of the stem or the teeth of the handle itself is stripped. Remove the handle and inspect. You may only need to replace the handle itself.

Actually I found the brand, it is glacier bay... What part do I need to ask for when I go to the hardware store?

What part have you remove? What part turns freely, the handle or the stem?

Is there a universal diverter valve, I cannot find a "glacier bay" brand diverter valve on the home depot or Lowe's web site... does it matter what kind I purchase?

With a pair of plyers try turning the stem. Do not mess up the teeth on the stem.

The water in my shower comes out mostly from the tub faucet and not the shower faucet (which I assume is a problem with the diverter) but what I don't understand is that the water pouring out of the tub end is scalding hot, while the water coming out of the shower end is only warm. Then they both...
