Slander defamation of character mental anguish
I Have Worked For This Firm For 12 Years With No Negative Findings.
I Was Called Into My Supervisor's Office. There Was A New Nurse In With
My Supervisor And The Administrator. The New Nurse Proceeded To Slander My Name And Good Job Reputation. This Was Allowed. The Next Morning I Was Forced To Take Off For A Week Until The Owner Returned From His Vacation. I Have Been Crying , And Emotionally Upset. I Can't Sleep. I Am Going To See A Counselor Tomorrow. I Do Not Know If I Have A Job Or Not.
Please Help. Do I Have Any Recourse At All?

If what the nurse said is not true and you can prove it and you lost your job over it you very well could have a case against her.

What was the slander about ? Not to be nosy, mistreated, but you really must tell us more in order to get some good advice.
Slander is innapropriate in any form. What did the nurse have to do with all of this ?

Slander is inappropriate in any form but people think slander in legal terms means telling the truth that the person may not like even if it is the truth BUT in court as long as what was said IS true you can not sue and win.

The Nurse Said To Me "the Only Reason You Work Here Is Because You Cannot Get A Job Anywhere Else. This Is The Only Place You Have Ever Worked. You Can Be Replaced. She Did Not Have A Reason To Say This Other Than I Guess She May Have Wanted My Position As Director Of Nursing.

That hardly seems like a reason for your job to let you go but if you work in an at will employment state there isn't much you can do about it. If that is all she said then it really isn't slander but her opinion.

Lets get this straight. You were DIRECTOR OF NURSING and you allowed her to say this to you ?
Sorry, but there is too much missing here to give an opinion.

Sounds like you need to have a talk with the boss when he gets back.

Yes, any director of nursing I know of would have been demanding this stranger be kicked out. Now on this, I don't know why she was saying it, who was she, some nurse that works for you ?

How hard is it to prove that someone has defamed your character and is it something worth pursuing? They used the word allegedly in the newspaper, but the story was completely fabricated and untrue. Is it worth pursuing since people believed the story was true.
