    Credit card number was stolen
My credit card (AAA financial service) number was stolen. I just got a bill from my Credit Card Company in an amount of over $9000. I call them about this and they only want to take $3000 off from my bill. Should I responsible for this unauthorized purchased bill? Any one can get a credit card number from internet this days unless I do not buy anything from internet. Is there any law to protect consumers? Please help.

I think that most anyone on the net that takes credit cards have incrypted sites that are pretty safe. You have to prove, I guess, that all the purchases weren't yours in the amount of 9000.

How do I prove for that I did not buy anything? Should be the other way that credit card company should prove I buy something ( say any my signature, voice record ) if they insist I should pay bill?

Ok, say, if I can prove as you said, is there any law protect me?

    Thanks!

Actually the law is in your favor. If you report the fraudulent use of your card you should only be responsible for $50.

I was going to say that reporting the use to the credit card company would be a good idea but if the goods were bought on line, the OP would have no idea his number was being used.

There won't be voice record, or signature in this case, at least not as far as I know. I don't use my card for that purpose.

I would think they could produce where the purchases were made, on line, in person, I don't know, whatever. You would still have to have a statement showing the purchases. You didn't say this was the case.

I don't know what their policy is but I had about $6,000 billed to my card, all on the Internet - the company called me at that level about the unusual activity, I said they weren't my charges, they froze that account and immediately opened a new account for me, they sent me a list of the charges, I prepared and sent them a notarized affidavit and they took all the charges off. I didn't have to pay a deductible and my homeowners insurance (I carry stolen card insurance) didn't have to pay a penny.

I wanted to know where the merchandise had been delivered, the name of the person ordering, and they would not give it to me nor would they tell me the name of the person who used the airline tickets which were charged.

I have a couple of suspicions and if I had that info I think I could narrow it down a little (based on the purchases) but they wouldn't give me the info.
