I recently started reading and transferring cd's to itune library. Probably did about 30 cd/s
Just recently the cd rom reader selects which ones it will view and transfers and which ones it won't with particular detail to age of cd. I tried to put in my phillips laser lens cleaner but the it doesn't seem to be read. Should I take it about and clean it manually?

Sounds more to me like it's a driver issue than anything else. For all those that are saying that Windows isn't detecting the drive, try to add new hardware first thing. If that doesn't work, double-check the connections inside your computer. If that still doesn't work, it's probably time to go shopping.

Back to the original problem. Uninstalling your drivers and reinstalling the drive may work. If it doesn't, try booting into safe mode (press F8 while your system is booting) and clearing out your driver cache, then installing the drive again.

I solved my own problem about the cd drive not reading certain cd's . I had the phillips brand lens cleaner disk (bought at walmart). You will notice two little bristle brushed on the cleaner. I took a very little isopropyl alcohol and sprayed it on the brushes and ran the disk. Worked like a charm. Suspected it cleaner the laser reader.
