    Green card for parents
I am a US citizen living in New York. Am visiting Bangalore now, and am hoping to apply for a green card for my parents (finally got them to agree to that). Could anyone please suggest a site that documents the procedures and the necessary paperwork? I am hopng to collect all the papers on my current visit to Bangalore.

    A few more questions--

How long does it typically take, given my circumstances? And is my parents' birth certificate a mandatory requirement (they don't have one, but have active passports on which they have traveled to the U.S. in the past).

Thank you for your time and insights!

Try searching "ICE", or "U.S. immigration". It took me 3 years to bring my wife in, so the flood of immigrants has "plugged the pipeline" somewhat.

Thank you. I had anecdotally heard that bringing one's parents is quicker. I was hoping to get a list of documents and steps that I would collect/follow.

It may take about a year or up to 3 years depending on the country they're from.

Thank you, lawanwadee. That is a useful link. Is there a substitute document for my parents' marriage certificate? Also, do they have to take a medical exam?

    Appreciate your time!

You can get a certified copy issued by the authority who issued the original documents.

To get medical exam, contact the embassy, you need a specific form to hand to the doctor... standard hospital forms are not accepted.

Thanks lawandee. However, my parents were married forty years ago and, believe it or not, their marriage was not registered. Apparently, it was not customary do do so during that time. I am trying to see what might serve as a substitute for a marriage certificate.

I am looking for a similar answer. My parents don't have marriage certificate. What could be the substitute? They have valid passports and valid visa to come to USA. They have been here 6 times. Please guide.

    Thanks
