    Car Title - marriage
I am selling my car to my daughter. She is paying for it with money she got for selling her previous car for which she was the sole owner because she had it before she married. Now her husband wants to be on the title of the new car too. I don't feel this is right because she is paying for it with money from the sale of her own car. Should both married people be listed on the titles of their cars as the owners? If they would divorce (I am not anticipating this!) that means one or the other of them would have to sign the title to the other person, correct?

My wife would never let me buy a vechile without her being on the title,

Do you and your wife have both names on your cars. This is an issue for your daughter and husband to decide and not really any of your business to be blunt, do not interfere in their marriage. If you don't want to sell her your car, ( she has and is paying money) let her buy a car someone else if you are not happy with the way they want to do this.

Actually you are assuming I am a married man asking this question. I am not. I am a single mother (actually a grandmother now). My daughter also did not want her husband's name on the new title either. He has another car of his own and her name is not on that title. I guess I did not make all this clear.
Thanks for taking the time to answer anyway.

The crux of what Chuck said still stands. This issue is between your daughter and her husband. You should not get involved.

Hmm - other people have said to stay out of it and that's probably good advice. If your daughter doesn't want the title held jointly I don't know why she doesn't just say no.

Anyway - I never thought of this before but I've never held joint title on a car.

In the event of a divorce having your sole name on a vehicle doesn't guarantee it will be "yours" if it's purchased with co-mingled funds, at least not in NYS.
