My shower drains very slowly. The problem just started, so I am going to try to plunge it. It's a shower only, with a 4"plate over the drain. My question is... if the plunger doesn't work, is Draino or Liquid Plumber OK to use on a septic system? When I have had problems with my bathtubs, I usually snake them, but the shower drain looks sooo large:eek: , can it actually be snaked?

Yes, a shower drain can be snaked easier then a bathtub. Try this first. Most bad odors in bathroom drains come from rotting hair mixed with grease from the soap. Try this. Remove the two screws holding the strainer. (TIP; put the screws in the soap dish before they get lost down the drain.) Shine a light down there and with a bent coathanger fish out any hair that may be hiding down there. Then pour a 1/2 gal. of bleach down into the trap and let it set over night. Next morning Plunge t6he drain and t6hen flush the mess down with 2 large pans of boiling water, (this is important). The bleach will dissolve the hair and make it slippery and the boiling water will melt the grease and get the mess out of your drain. Smell better now? Cheers TOM

Shower Drains Slow/bad smell [ 1 Answers ]

I just remodeled my bathroom. I removed the tub/shower and installed a new shower stall only. The new plumbing is built like this: I removed the tub drain and over-flow pipe just above the p-trap and attached a new 24 inch, 2 inch diameter ABS pipe just above the old p-trap, using an elbow. This...
