Chronic Headache--Neurontin and Vicodin Side Effects
I had had chronic headaches for years. I'm on Prozac but that doesn't seem to work anymore. I've tried Topomax and it just made me too tired. I've also been on vicodin for about 2 years-5/mg 3x day. It worked for a while but my headaches are coming back. Dr. just put me on Neurontin 300 3x/day. This med makes me feel like I am "swimming" and everything is in slow motion. Has anyone else had this effect? Also, the readup on this med states that more monitoring may be needed if vicodin is being taken, which is my case. Anyone know of why/why not to take vicodin along with neurontin?
Thanks so much!

Have you had your chronic headaches properly diagnosed by a neurologist to see what is causing them? Have you had any testing to be sure you are being treated with appropriate medicines? Just changing meds again and again may not be the actual cause of your chronic headaches.

Yes, I've had lots of tests, including MRI's on my head, to rule out anything else. I have arthritis in my neck and spine from a car accident years ago. I also suffer from anxiety/depression. I also tried physical therapy for a long time, and it only helped my neck/head pain a very small amount (considering all the time I had to go to physical therapy, I decided it wasnt' worth it).

I have a disc at C-1 and C-2 that impinges on my spinal cord causing me horrendous headaches if it floats into the spinal cord so I know where you're coming from. There is one thing though I'll tell you. That the pills you are taking are obviously having a boomerang effect in that once your body gets "used" to the drug, you start having the headaches all over again. I took Fiorinal for years - 11 years to be exact. I don't take anything now. I only take aspirin and nothing else. I had a horrible double whiplash car accident that messed up my nech big time. I know you don't want to hear this... but the best thing you could do is stop taking all the pills. It will be rough for awhile and your head will definitely hurt as you are coming off the medicine, but in the end you will be much better off. Try taking Fiorinal for years and see if you're not hooked like I was. I was having the rebounding headaches if I didn't take it. My neuro had to have me take liver tests every so often as I was taking over 100 pills a month and he feared liver damage for me. I just quit taking everything cold turkey as I could not afford to keep seeing him for the RX as I had no insurance. The meds were not that expensive as I took the generic. Combined it cost me a fortune every month. I had MRI's galore. My disc could not be operated on as it was too high up in my neck right below the skull. You could use what I use on my arthritis (I have it in neck, hands, knees, back) and I don't have the arthritic symptoms anymore. It's Ovaderm Massage Cream from Australia. Google this and see for yourself. I use it only when I need to relieve my symptoms. A jar of this lasts me a YEAR - that's how good the stuff is. Have used it for 3 years now since I stumbled onto this stuff.
I went to therapy due to having PTSD. I found out that the pain was causing me to have a vicious cycle of being depressed and having the pain hurt worse. Wish I could just reach out my hand and help you somehow. Please send me a personal message, OK? Have something to tell you.

I took 2 or 3 a day for a week then didn't on the weekend. It's Monday. I still feel its effects.
Also, how addictive is it, because one source says that the withdrawal symptoms can result in death.
