    Low disc space
Can someone please help me clear up my c drive, Every time I turn it on it is telling me it is critically low. Like 16Megs of memory left.

I clear cookies, temporary internet files and such after each use.

I tried to move most of my itunes files to my external hard drive, but it is still critically low.

    Any other suggestions?

Thanks and have a great day.

I can't really remember, I bought the PC about 4 maybe 5 years ago from costco. I want to say 160G. I am really computer illiterate so bare with me.

I may need to just go buy a new one. Would you recommend a Mac or PC and if PC, which kind and how big of a drive?

    Thanks for the quick response

Right click on My Computer and select Properties. It will give you that info.

What version of Windows is on it?

You might want to have a computer geek (professional or otherwise) to take a look at your computer before you buy a new one. Unless the processor is too slow or you do just want a new computer, the geek could possibly save you a bunch of money on a new comp you don't need.

Just as a quickie note -- there are some things you can do to clean up a bit, but if you're that critically low on drive space I doubt a little cleaning up is going to do it. You'd need to do some major cleaning yourself, like uninstalling unused programs or saving even more things to disc. (I'm always curious how people accumulate that much stuff. I'm using like about 20 gig of space. That's even including all the games on here I'm not playing, etc.)

If you really have that much stuff and you want that much stuff, assuming your computer can accommodate it, an easy solution is a second hard drive. If you don't have another bay to put it in, there's external hard drives. Personally, with a 4-5 year old computer, I see no earthly reason to get another one unless you need to drive it to the limits for games or something and it just can't be updated that much. (Mine's about 5 years old and I have a 2nd hard drive added, could add more memory, update the sound & video, etc. and have no reason to buy a new one.)

If there's room inside the CPU, a surefire solution is to ADD a hard drive. It's very easy to do and instructions in the hard drive boxes are usually very well written.

After buying and installing a second HD, I would right-click on MY DOCUMENTS and choose PROPERTIES. This shows you where you're my DOCUMENT is currently located.

Now click on MOVE and relocate it to your newer, bigger, empty HD you added (probably a D:\ drive now.)

Make sure any music you download or rip goes into the MY MUSIC folder inside the My Documents folder.

    Hope this helps.
