Hi,

I am a british citizen and my partner lives in Toronto. We have been having a relationship over 2 years now and currently engaged. We had hoped for me to move over this year on a permanent residence under conjugal partner category. We than hoped to do our wedding in canada next year. Unfortunately we just found out the Conjugal partner was rejected as we have been long distance and have not lived together. We have spoken to one consultant who has suggested to push the wedding forward so we will be eligible to apply under spouse. However since our disappoint first time round I am worried even if we try to apply after we are married that they might still reject us and we will separate. Please can someone help? Some advice on this spouse category and our chances. We really just want to be together now and I never realised how hard it would be. I have been told I can't go on a work visa now because they know I have tried a permanent residence?

I would be so grateful if someone could shed some light on these kind of scenarios. :confused: :(

You do not have a partner you have a long distance girl or boy friend. How many times have either of you traveled to visit the other,
Also why would you separate if you get rejected, you both love each other ? Then if that fails you try to move the other to the UK

Normally it is very easy for British to relocate to Canada, Australia, etc.
Have you met each other in person? If so... how many times?
Did you submit sufficient proof of your relationship?

Well we started o Yes we have met in person. We have been seeing each other every other month since 2006 and we speak everyday. We sent so much proof, photos, emails, accounts we have together saving for our future. But apparently we went for the wrong catefory. Connjugal partners need to have lived together for at least a year and we have never had that as we have not been able to due to the distance. I want to try and get a work visa but been told I probably can't now as we have aoolied for a permanent residence.

True, conjugal partners have to already be living together to apply. You need to get married and then file as outside spousal. Continue visiting each other during the application process as much as possible and it should work out just fine.

Lawandee, actually there is no special provisions for people from Commonwealth countries to relocate to Canada (unless they have family already in Canada)

Thank you for that. I think we will have to do 2 weddings now as we have been planning our wedding for next year with family and friends. So we may have to do a private registry one this year so we can be together. Could they still reject us even if we were married?
