    Does dog urine kill grass?
Does dog urine kill grass? I have a neighbor who doesn't take care of their lawn because they are renters, who have a dog that they allow to roam around the fenced area of their lawn. Their lawn has large patches of grass that has turned brown and is obviously dying and my lawn has the same brown patches only along the fence that separates their lawn from mine. Is there a way to test it? Does anybody have any suggestions that I can do?

The fence is on the other parties property and the urine damage shouldn ot extend more than a few inches beyond the fence if the dog is male. Female dogs generally urinate in open areas whereas a male like a post, tree or fence but both can kill grass for a long, long time.

Urine is essentially fertilizer. Too much of it will kill grass. Does dog urine kill grass? Yes, if the dog remains in a single place while emptying its bladder.

Of course the urine can cause the grass to die.

    Just piling on... yes.

Since our dog passed two years ago we've no new stress spots due to urine in the back yard and its only getting better and better. These would be at their worst come the hard heat of the summer.

Yes, dog urine will kill grass. Urine is uric acid which, initially, will burn the grass. Once the strongest urine leaches through the grass, what's left will actually turn the outer circle of the dead area green. About the only thing to do to avoid urine damage is to periodically, sometimes quite often, overwater the affected area to wash the urine through the ground before it has a chance to burn the grass.

Yes dog urine can kill grass. This is because urine is high in nitrogen, and acidic, and in concentrated form chemically burns grass. The same can happen if you over fertilize your grass or fertilize it in the heat of the day and without immediately watering it after applying the fertilizer. Attempt to train the dog not to go in the grass.

I want to replace the grass in my lawn with some eco-grass (a blend of fescues, not the astroturf), but I'd like to avoid using Roundup to kill my existing grass. I was thinking of either tilling my entire yard with a rototiller or getting a sod cutter and then flipping the sod over (so I don't...
