    Breaking my lease
    If I can't afford my apartment anymore how can I break my lease without having to pay for the remaining months

    Dear DDietz

    Go to the landlord and ask him/her to stop your lease and find a new tenant asap.
    They may be willing to release you of your commitments once they have a new tenant.
    Till that time you have to pay for - and can stay at - the apartment.

    You have five options

    1: Get the landlord to agree to release you.
    2: Negotiate a buyout with the landlord
    3: Sublet (if allowed)
    4: Find a successor tenant
    5: get a roommate.
