I live in Washington state, I moved out of an apartment on May 31st of this year. On June 8th I received the standard security deposit letter. It stated that all of the amounts (to be refunded OR charged) were "To be determined" as there was pet damage to the carpet. It stated that a carpet cleaning representative would be there on June 11th to inspect said damage and then I would be notified of the findings. Well, almost 2 months later I still haven't heard anything. What I want to know is, can I be hit with an unexpected bill to pay for damages such as replacing the carpet etc after this much time has passed? I don't know whether I should expect something in the mail still, or if there is some sort of time limit that the landlord has to ask me to pay or what? Thank you in advance for any help.

Pursuant to RCW 59.18.280, Washington state landlord/tenant law, your landlord has 14 days to return your deposit or notify you of the amounts deducted along with the reasons. If he doesn't do that within 14 days, you are entitled to ALL of it back. Furthermore, if he doesn't make a claim on your money within the 14 days, he can't ever.

If you sue him, the court has the discretion to give you TWICE your money back for his blatant failure. I'd sue the crap out of him.

In the state of Florida how long to a landlord have before he ask a tenant to contact a person for monies owed in the state of Florida. My lease was up, I moved out in 2006 and not I have a letter. Stating I owe money

Well if you moved out on May 31st as your post stated, then it's only been 6 days. Legally the landlord has 14 days to either return the deposit or send an itemized list of deductions. Did you mean you moved out on March 31st?
