No hot water in two showers - home purchase
I have a problem that is similar to keeg1226 (posted Feb 13, 2005, 03:26PM), but the circumstances are not exactly the same.

I purchased a home that is about 3 years old. When I ran through my checklist, the house had water in all of the bathrooms and I noted that I had hot water in all of the sinks. The home has 3 full baths, one close to the hot water heater and two at the opposite end of the house. Previously, the house had be winterized and water was turned on when I moved in.

Upon moving in, I discovered that there is no hot water in the two farther bathrooms. When I turn the mixer to hot, the water flow discontinues which appears to indicate that there is not hot water flowing to either tub. Currently, both sinks have hot water.

I have looked around the showers and have not seen a cutoff valve for the hot water and there appears to be only on cutoff valve for hot water at the pipe leading away from the hot water heater.

Does anyone have any recommendations of what I should be searching for or does this sound like something that I won't be able to handle myself.

    Thank you,

    Chet

If there are no shut offs then we need to look at the mixing valves. You said tub only, right? I just want to be sure we are on the same page here. You also said "no hot water in the two farther bathrooms" so we need to know if the sinks are OK and its just the tub or not. Back to you for an answer.

    Thank you for replying.

I did not see any shutoffs but had not looked in the attic space if that is a possibility. Both of the farther bathrooms are "full" will a shower and tub. Both sinks in the bathrooms have hot water. Both mixers for the shower do not flow any hot water.

So we have isolated the issue to the valves for the two showers. Shut off the main and remove the handles and trim plate, the escutcheon. Can yo tell me the brand and/or model valve or a picture?

The brand for both is a Moen. I worked with a friend and we pulled the mixer valve and it turns out that the valve was installed incorrectly. We got one of them working, but looks like it had been damaged during the installation. After purchasing a new valve, it works perfect.

Thank you for your help isolating the problem.
