    Paint removal
I have removed the wallpaper from a wall where some of the underlying paint has remained. Some of it is flakey and comes off quite easily, but a lot of it needs scraping off and is taking ages. It's not an old plaster job, so there's no lead etc. How can I get the remaining paint off without further scouring the plaster work, and with as few chemicals as possible? Thanks, Paul.

When my parents were redecorating our house, they used a hot gun to strip off a lot of the paint. Think it's called a hot gun? Or even a heat gun.

    Hope that helps.

All of the underlying paint should have remained, I suspect a bad paint job underneath obviously but it can be fixed. If the paint it is peeling you'll need to scrape off the loose stuff then prime and patch the areas where it came off. Get the old paper and glue off (already done sounds like) then let it dry. Scrape the loose paint, don't try to remove all of paint, just what is peeling. Then you can patch and prime the spots that need it.

I agree with amricca and I'd skim coat some of the rough areas with drywall compund and then wipe with a well dampened sponge.
