Credit card with a collection agency because of default, what happens next?
I am trying to help my father who stopped paying his citibank card 9months ago. The card has a balance of $26,000.00! The min monthly payments became overwhelming for him. Anyway, now citibank has assigned the account to DC services for collection; they are not an outside collection agency. I was told the agency works for citibank.

I have tried to set something up with them but they are unwilling, they want the balance due immediately! They will not budge on setting up a payment plan, I tried to set something up, until we have the means to really attack paying off the debt.

Since they will not work with me, does anyone know what their next step will be? I have helped my parents out with other bills, the bills were actually sent o lawyers offices. The law offices I dealt with were very unserstanding; who thought a lawyers office would be way more understanding and HELPFUL.

Well I would say first I would still not trust the attorneys, helpful is often done to trick you into doing or saying something.

But if they will not agree to a payment, you have no choice but to wait, at some point they will sue, document every offer you made, keep a copy of the letters you have sent. Second of course stop any talking on the phone to them and document everything in writing.

At some point they will sue him in court and you show the judge all the proof of what you tired to settle, so they will get a judgement
