Follow up on "No Cooling!"
So, I tried again this morning. I also tought that maybe 20 minutes in 90 degree temperature was not enough time... The termostat this morning read 84, so I set the air on 82 to see if anything happened. After 20-25 minutes the temperature was still 84. Air was blowing, didn't seem too cold but neither warm...
I really never use this unit, maybe turned on 5 times in the past 4 years, when it was installed. The question is: does not using the unit hurts it? Since I don't plan to use it, it was installed just for resale value on the house when we finished part of the upstairs, should I get it fixed? Does it sound like an expensive fix to you experts? Will the problem get worse without fixing it now?
Thanks

Not really.
Does it sound like an expensive fix to you experts?
Good question but we have no way of knowing without being there and checking it out.
Will the problem get worse without fixing it now?
It is broken now and until it is fixed it will be broken. If the unit is not running it will not get worse.

hvac1000, Do you think that not using the unit is what damaged it?

No it could be a slow leak of refrigerant causing the problem.
It could be the circuit breaker or fuse outside.

I do a lot of service for vacation homes in my area. I have found that letting them set for long periods with out being used is bad. Motors start to get stiff and not wanting to start, Insect building nest in and around contactors. I look at it like not using your car but one or two times a year. Its not going to work very well either after setting for long periods with out use.

hvac1000 when you say it might be the circuit breaker, how can that be? If the circuit breaker is popped there would be no power. Or are you referring to a fuse or circuit inside the AC unit?

There should be a disconnect outside. You said it was not cooling so it could be the outside unit is not running. In your first post you did not say if the outside unit was running or not so that is why I aid to check the breakers outside and inside. Your outside disconnect might have fuses in it or that could also be a breaker. They are both accepted forms of protection for the outside unit.

hvac1000 the outside unit where the fan is located comes on and the fan spins.

Can anyone help with a Window A/C? I have a Goldstar 6500BTU room A/C. I have used it for two years without trouble. Last year, around mid July it stopped blowing cool air and continued to run all the time. I have cleaned the filter and cleaned the inside of the unit, however, it still blows warm air. Could it need a charge of freeon (or whatever they use now), or could it be the compresser. I don't want to have to keep buying a new one every two years if this can be fixed at a low cost - Can I do it myself?
