Is the mirror frameless and just glued to the wall with some type of adhesive ?

It is probably glued in place, carefully pry it off with a pry bar. If your going to redo the wall you could cut the drywall off too.

Take a roll of duct tape and makes sveral large X patterns on the glass reaching every corner. This will keep small chips to a minimum. Where goggles and gloves, take a center punch and hammer to make about 10-15 well spaced "dents" in the mirror. Now pry with a prybar or wonder bar from behind. Your wallboard will be a mess but its repairable with joint compound or plaster.

Are you sure it won't come down? Does it have any decorative pieces that are raised and not flush with the glass? See if you can remove them and find the screws behind them!
