    Spouse Verbally Promises To Pay.
We are getting divorce and we have agreed to all the terms except this:

My spouse verbally agrees to pay me $500.00 a month (this is not child support nor alimony money) for ten years. I want to make sure that she will not change her mind. How do I do that?

You need to have it put into writing otherwise it will be hard to take her to court to keep paying once she decides to stop paying this amount. You need to get a good family attorney involved in your situation so no one is the loser here.

Just ask your attorney, to include this in the terms of the divorce.

    Problem solved.

Why is she paying you $500 a month. It is not child support or alimony? Then what is it? If she is giving you money to help you live day to day it is alimony. If she is paying you for her portion of a car or other property or credit card bills. That is a different thing too. If it is only verbal for 10 years.. She may decide to stop paying you. You should get it in writing

Yes, is it to pay something specific, but all of the terms of the separation and divorce should be included in the divorce agreement.

Learn for my hard lesson... HAVE IT IN WRITING! I was "promised" that if I needed help he would help me as long as he could, he also promised stock options for 3 years and well because he go mad at me, I did not get that. He thought I was lying to he about hidden funds. He is not honoring that promises. I have and NEVER had any hidden funds. If I did I would not have asked for help for medication or to pay a phone bill. Due to some unexpected medical expense I did not have enough money and well now I have been shafted because I took “his word” like a fool. He also indicated I could have any of the furnishings in the home we just don't need to list them all. I could not get them beforehand because I had not place to put them or anyone to help me move them. Second screw up on my part. I want to tell the world all about it, his sister, his nephew, his kids but I will take control and only vent here. I just don't want anyone else to make the dumb mistake I have. Don't trust their word! Even if you don't believe they will ever hurt you! They will!
