    Felony & Renting
Hello, I have a problem. But first I would like to say thanks for taking your time to answer my question. I was convected of a felony 14 yrs ago, and forgotten about it until a few days ago. Me and my fiancée applied for a place to live, and we have three children together.
We got notice of our background check, they found my felony. I knew that one of these days I would have to face this. I knew I couldn't afford to get an exspungment. My question is Is there some kind of loop hole or something I can do to convince the owners of the apartment to alow me and my family to move in? I would take any info that will help me and family to move.

The potential landlord can pick who they want to live in their property. This has been going on for quite sometime now. They probably have some kind of clause in their rental contract that says this. Sorry. You'll just have to find another place if they are not willing to listen to you. If they did rent to you, then they would have other possible tenants possibly sue them for not letting them live there. One rule for all, not just some or one.

    Hello d:

If you can convince them, go ahead. There's no law that'll help you, though. It WAS 14 years ago, for crying out loud. Tell him THAT. If that isn't enough, you don't want to live there anyway.

The other good news is that not all background checks are the same. Most won't pick up a conviction that old, anyway. So, keep on looking.
