There was an old movie I saw many years ago about a young woman who passed as white and her mother was black. It was very sad because she pretty much shunned her mother who loved her very much. I think it ended with the mother dying and the daughter realizing the error of her ways too late to apologize to her mother. I would like to know the name of the movie and the actresses who played the two women.

That's an old Fanny Hearst book and a movie that had Susan Kohner star in it along with Juanita Moore. It was called Imitation of Life and released in 1960. It was a real tear jerker when mom died at the end. I'm an old movie buff.

Actresses were Lana Turner and Juanita Moore.

Susan Kohner was the daughter. Juanita Moore was the mother. Lana Turner was in it also but I don't remember just what part she played. I know it was not the mother.

OK. Now I got it.

This was released as "Imitation of life" in 1934.
The Mother Delilah Johnson was played by Louise Beavers and the Daughter, Peola was played by Fredi Washington.

In 1959, it was re-released as "An Imitation of Life".
The mother, Annie Johnson was played by Juanita Moore and the Daughter, played by
Susan Kohner. It was in this version that Lana Turner played the woman who took Annie and her daughter in.

Now I'm no longer confused.

I couldn't remember what role Lana had in it but I kept remembering her at the death bed scene looking gorgeous as usual.
