    Obama lied - again
Or is he just an idiot? He's once again sharing his rewritten Obamacentric version of history.

Obama also spoke about his uncle, who was part of the American brigade that helped to liberate Auschwitz. He said the family legend is that, upon returning from war, his uncle spent six months in an attic. “Now obviously, something had really affected him deeply, but at that time there just weren’t the kinds of facilities to help somebody work through that kind of pain,” Obama said. “That’s why this idea of making sure that every single veteran, when they are discharged, are screened for post-traumatic stress disorder and given the mental health services that they need – that’s why it’s so important.”
The Soviet army liberated Auschwitz on January 27, 1945.

Besides being a creative liar, Obama is a Gaffe Machine and he gets a pass. As Michelle Malkin notes Dan Quayle still can't live down his misspelling of "potatoe" - in fact, the article I read on Obama's 57 state tour couldn't help but remind us again. What may be most concerning though is he sees dead people:

On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroesand I see many of them in the audience here today — our sense of patriotism is particularly strong.
    I don't think I want a president with a sixth sense...

Obama did mention it was a family legend, which by definition means an unverified story. Historically it was actually the Soviet Army that did the liberating, but I thought we had some of our military personnel sent later to accompany the Red Cross. My Jewish mother actually visited the Holocaust museum a few years ago. If I can remember sometime I'll ask her what she knows as to get the bigger picture. Not so much on Obama's uncle legend story, but for my own personal education. Like Hillary ducking imaginary bullets in Bosnia, perhaps Obama's campaign speech writers are competing with McCain for that number spot in the gaffe market? :)

Bobby, American military personnel "sent later to accompany the Red Cross" doesn't come close to being "part of the American brigade that helped to liberate Auschwitz." The family legend part was that "upon returning from war, his uncle spent six months in an attic."

    Steve-

Just to correct you before the Republican machine gets giddy and goes tangent over absolutely nothing (as opposed to the important issues in the campaign).

#1) Obama neither lied, nor is he an idiot. He misnamed the camp. He actually has a higher education, than one John McCain. Although I respect McCain it's really irrelevant to his ability, but rather his ideology that suffers to my liking.

#2) It's not actually Obama's uncle, but his great uncle.

#3) Jews, and I'm one of them, we don't care about Obama's mistake misnaming the actual concentration camp. Death was death to us, it's not like we are talking about the Holiday Inn as opposed to vacation time at the Hilton Regency.

Obama's Great Uncle Was A Member Of The 89th Infantry Division That Liberated The Ohrduf Camp - Democratic Underground

"In fact, campaign spokesman Bill Burton says, his great uncle was a member of the 89th Infantry Division that liberated the Ohrduf camp, part of Buchenwald and according to the Holocaust Museum, the first concentration camp liberated by U.S. troops.

The soldier in question, Burton said, is Obama's grandmother's brother, who's still alive.

You're kidding! He wants to meet with Chavez? The little article here does not make it seem that she would be too supportive of his cause, but you decide!

There is a small difference between the two comments though Steve. McCain's 100 year comments could be understood by people to be his plan. A policiy. His ideas for the furutre should he be elected. This idea of his could / will affect peoples lives. Obama was talking about the past. Something that has happened. Its over and done with and his gaffe has no bearing on the future. It won't affect peoples lives. I don't actually believe McCain wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years, but the old man said it so it could be taken that way. He was talking about the future so of course people will use it against him. Obama was referring to the past and even said 'legend has it'.

For the record I think it is all rubbish including McCain's so called gaffes. Along with Obama he seems like a respectable guy. I don't like some of his policies but as a man he seems honourable. This election has been a real eye opener for a foreigner. It has showed the despicable theatre that is american politics. If Obama's great uncle is a real election issue than I pity the whole process and the electorate.

The Democrats stayed on subject with an important issue that's relative to current events. BTW McCain implied that the Iraqi war will continue, as long as it takes, regardless. That's an example of his ideology that I don't agree with him upon.

Well said Bobby. There is a big difference in the relevance between ideas about the future and mistaken stories of the past.

Since Obama's last visit in '06, maybe he thought that Dubya declared the "United States of Iraq" as part of the election base and divided their country up into seven more states?? Not even Obama's immune to having a Dan Quayle moment.

There is that difference but nevertheless if Obama's past has no bearing on the future why does he talk about it so much? He's using these 'legends' as validation, to gain credibility in areas he's lacking, and over and over again we're finding out they're obviously incorrect, mythological and/or morphing. After 5 years of "Bush lied" why should we turn to someone who himself can't seem to spit out the truth?

For the record I think it is all rubbish including McCain's so called gaffes. Along with Obama he seems like a respectable guy. I don't like some of his policies but as a man he seems honourable. That's what I like about you Skell, you're a fair guy. I would like to return to more honorable politics, but I'm not sure if honorable has ever been a useful word in describing politics - anywhere. Obama's uncle isn't an issue, but incidents such as this, the Wright controversy, etc. are useful in determining a man's character - and that is an issue. Sure Obama "misspoke" or "misremembered" this time, but trying to discern when he's telling the truth is getting more and more difficult... and when he is obviously candid, it's scary.

This is the double standard in the MSM. Race is the third rail but McCain's age is the punchline for jokes.

Last week McCain's health record was analyzed. Compared to Cheney, who has helped keep the cardiologists busy, McCain is incredibly healthy. I wonder why no one was asking for Obama's health record given that his past drug use

Puts him at higher risk for viral hepatitis [ b, c ] as well as hiv. :( Has anybody in the MSM questioned Hillary about her most recent mamograms or pap smears. After all she may be at risk for stds via Bill. ;)
