    Dryer stops mid cycle
We have a GE electric dryer, model DRSR483EG0WW, which is about 1 1/2 years old. This week it would not start. We had a tech out who replaced the start switch. Now, it shuts down after about 10 minutes of use, but will restart after a few minutes. No noise occurs at shut down, it just acts as though the cycle is done. I have checked the venting, which is fine, and it shuts down even if the vent hose is disconnected and the dryer is freely venting. Could this problem have anything to do with that newly replaced start switch?

It sure sounds like a heat-related problem. The dryer gets too hot, shuts off, cools down, will restart. A decent tech would've checked for lint buildup in the dryer, and maybe he did.

There is a thermal fuse and a thermal switch in the dryer. The thermal fuse is a one-time protector in case the temperature gets waaaay too high. Once it goes, it must be replaced. The thermal switch is also an over-heat protector, but it will reset itself once the temperature falls to a safe level. If this switch is covered in lint, it can trip more often than it should. I would focus on this switch.

I suppose if the door switch or another switch was intermittently opening, it might have these symptoms, but it is hard to believe that after a rest period it would start working again (unless the heat is what makes the switch open up). I doubt that the new start switch is involved at all.

I think it is heat-related, but exactly where is hard to say.

My Kenmore Elite, heavy duty, electric dryer stops mid cycle. There is heat but it doesn't finish the cycle so clothes are dry. Strangely, I tried flipping the breaker on-of-on (which was NOT tripped) and it started and finished the cycle. Now that doesn't seem to work. I've tried both cycles...
