If your County Assessor has a web site, you can get some information there.

If not, you can go to the register of deeds, and look up the property, or ask for a list of the previous tax payers.

I will only list owners, not residents if it was a rental property, and in some cases, the taxpayer may not actually be the owner, but those are fairly rare.

Try the local tax office where you pay your property taxes. They would have a record there showing if and when building permits were applied for to make additions or changes to your house. Try the county courthouse where your deed or mortgage is recorded. A lot of counties let you do this online you just need to know the property's address or yours or the seller's names

You can find out who owned your property in the past though the recorder of deed office. If you want to know about what the home was used for or more, you may want to look at the local historical society and past families that lived there

Thanks for the tips. OK... so this is the truth. The house was built in 1972. We have, (my husband, kids and I) experienced some things that are out of the ordinary now for 12 years. I am curious about the background of not only the actual past tenants, but the history of the land it is built on.
