    Child support
I've been paying child support for years now and I went to the family court to get a minute order stating that my rights were terminated years ago. OK my question to you is do they pay me back all the money I have gave to them over the years since my daughter is now 19 yrs old and my right were terminated when she was 10?

Unless another person adopted her, you are responsible for paying.

Depends on where you live. In some states a TPR does end a child support obligation, in other states it doesn't.

Even if you live in an area where it does, you may not be able to recover support you paid because you continued to pay it. The time to protest would have been when you got the TPR and support continued.

Just read your follow-up. So someone adopted her, who were you making your payments to? Its possible that you may have a case to recover that money. But I have the feeling the answer will be you should have stopped it after the adoption. I think you need to consult a falmiyl law attorney to help.

Scott is right. You really need to get a lawyer to help you here.
Wow, they screwed you if you just now found out that she was adopted. Sorry for that!

I'm a little confused by this. Where you aware at the time that she was being adopted? Were you aware of the TPR? Did you agree to it?

Other than paying support have you been in contact with your daughter at all?

Ok i was aware years ago that she was going to be adopted by her grandmother, but i did not no when. At that time i was in college and gave up my parental rights for that her grandmother could take care of her while i went off to school.. now mind you the agency never told me that she was adopted. So i went down there not to long ago and spoke with one of the reps and she told me what to do.. she asked me why was i still paying support if your daughter is 19 and i said good question let me check into this... and that's when i found out that she was adopted 10 years ago. And yes i agreed to the tpr, and yes i'm still in my daughters life

Something doesn't make sense here. Are you the mother or father? Depending on which where is the other parent? Are you sure the grandmother adopted her or was just named Guardian?

Again, I think you need to consult an attorney to unravel this. But I don't believe there was a TPR. Courts are very unwilling to grant TPRs and I don't see the necessity in this case. You did not want to terminate your rights, you simply wanted to have the grandmother take care of her and serve as her guardian. And adoption is not necessary in that case. So that would make the most sense and explain why support was continued.
