Hippa law
I have a friend who worked in a hospital, she was an admitting secretary, when she frist got the job her husbands ex called her to speak about their daughter and talk about the upcoming weekends plans for the daughter, while on the phone the ex asked my friend to look and see when the daughter was last seen in the hospital, my friend looked her up and found out that the daughter had not been seen in many years at that hospital. Now about 3 months later the ex and my friends husband had a blowing out. They do not speak to each other or exchange the daughter for visits.5 months after the phone call my friend get fired from her job. Because the ex called the hospital and complained that she might get information off her daughters records. To the bosses and every one at the hospital it looked like my friend just looked up the daughters records for no reason at all. They said it was a prech in the hippa law, can my friend be sued? And is the vialation nation wide will she never be able to work in the medical field again?

I don't know the legal issues as not a lawyer. I have a similar problem with a relative who works at the local hospital and gave my private medical information to other relatives (and there was no reason for him to read it either.) I believe he should be fired as it is a HIPPA violation. In the case of your friend, how old is the child? If the father is a legal gardian, he should legally be able to ask questions about her. If she was fired, I'm assuming she violated the law in some way. Whether she can work in the field again, I don't know. She should learn a valuable lesson and understand that she's not allowed to offer that type of information to anyone.
