Craftsman 5.5 hp lawnmower - Model # 917-387070 (? )
How do I replace this cable? It looks like there may be a spring missing (if there was one) down near the engine. I know something is wrong with the cable because it did finally start, then would not cut off. Any help is appreciated. I have been ripped off too many times lately. Lady in Need!!

What is the item you are speaking of? Is it a lawnmower? If so, what is the model#?

I was hoping to find the owner manual online but could not.

They typically have a schematic of all the parts so that you could confirm exactly what needs replaced. Typically the spring that controls the throttle is a separate part from the wire itself.

Can you jerry rig it with a wire so that it stays on for now? If you hang tight up to a couple days I can tell you that we've got a few lawn care equipment experts here on the board.

I don't know if the sears site gives manuals, this is the cable from the handle switch (dead mans switch) that when released kills it? Does it still pull down at the engine? What brand engine? If the cables good, then the kill switch itself isn't getting hit, its one wire from the coil to that spot where the cable goes to, when released the cable lets go of the flywheel brake and grounds that wire at the same time.
