I rent from a privately owned 3 family house in NY. My question is "Is there a certain percentage a landlord can increase my rent"? I do not have a lease, and have been living here for one year. Please advise.

No, there is no limit, if the landlord wants to raise the rent by $5.00 or 500.00, it is their right to do so.

You, on the other hand, have the right to refuse the increase, and find another place to live.

No, increases are not regulated in NYS. Also, renewal of a lease is not automatic.
