Got a new Dog now my old dog is going in the house
I just brought home a 9 month old puppy from the pound last Friday. My 3 1/2 year old lab was just spay on Thursday and came home on Friday as well. They are both females and get along great. However since Friday, my 3 1/2 year old has been "going number 2" in house. Same place -- bottom of the steps. The new dog is completely potty trained. Do you think my old dog is jealous? Or maybe it has something to do with her spaying? Or is she marking her territory? I am going to start kenneling her again at night and while I am away, but I was just wondering why she would start this. Any info or insight would be appreciated.

I've heard of wetting to mark her territory but never leaving a pile. Could she have pain or bowel incontinence from the surgery or the anesthesia or from being in the kennel to recover? Some places just have wire floors, they don't even walk them. Usually if you feed her her food in the morning or before noon then walk her a few hours later then another quick walkabout before bedtime she will have ample opportunity to go? My female "took to her bed" for about a week after the spay and was also incontinent and we had no other dog at that time. I thought maybe her nose was stuffy and she couldn't find her usual spot or maybe she didn't like the wet grass on her shaved tummy when she went out her dog door? Remember she had abdominal surgery and the abdominal muscles are used to push out the stool. Hers are probably uncomfortable right now.
