    The pill and pregnancy
I am currently on the pill (Microgynon 30) I have been on it for nearly a year. I am on it, as both me and my boyfriend are allergic to latex in the condoms, and the doctor said the pill would be the next safest option. We are aware of the fact we have unprotected sex, and do get checked out on a regular basis.

What worries me is that there is a change I could get pregnant. I believe that the "period" whilst on the pill, is just withdrawal bleeding and is not an actual period. Does this mean that you can still bleed one a month and be pregnant, or does the withdrawal bleeding indicate that you are not pregnant? I know this is logical and seems a silly question, but I want to get expert advice to put my mind at rest. I am 21, so I am therefore an adult, and I am aware of the risks I am taking, so please do not post about me being silly and an unresponsible child, it has all been clarified with the doctors, our parents know the situation, and I have been with my boyfriend since I was 14, we did not have sex until we were 20.

The pill, when taken correctly, has a pretty high level of protection against pregnancy. Most people use it as their sole contraceptive method with confidence... (you are correct that the bleeding when you are off the pills is withdrawl bleeding).
Certainly nothing is 100% effective all of the time, so there is a small chance of a pregnancy occurring, but it is not common. You could become pregnant while on the pill... it happens, but usually this occurs when pills have been missed.
