    OneCare by windows??
Is there anyone else who has decided to try this out?? So far I am finding that it does not stop viruses or spyware. After one day I had adaware find 10 objects and Trend found 8. Are there settings for this stuff?? I am unable to wade through the windows layers of info or misinfo. Just another day in the life of a web surfer with more computer than knowledge of how to use it...

    Hi,
    OneCare? No, never tried it.
But, I can suggest using SpyWare Blaster; a great, free program I use. It stops spyware/advertising stuff from getting into the computer in the first place.
You don't do scans with it, but it does have updates, just like an antivirus program. If you wish to check it out, it's at:

I've been using it now for quite some time; and have had NO spyware get into the computer. Best wishes, and good luck.

    Further to my earlier post...
I have found that OneCare is a little like Norton it won't admit it when it lets something in. I ran Trend and found some malware and spyware after using it (WindowOneCare + Windows Defender Beta2) for a week. But now that it is in the system I cannot get rid of it without Formatting. Just like avg/norton and probably all other "free" software the price you pay is that once you download it you cannot get rid of it till you format or buy a new hard drive.
I have to say though at least the onecare updates windows, defrags, deletes temp files so it actually is useful. AND it doesn't block Java like Norton it only blocks the files it has identified as infected.
Personally I think that Norton has hired the Bozo's from Windows that were fouling up all the time...

I recently tried (NO)onecare(s) and found it was a pile of junk.
Extremely slowwwwwwww and as normal incomplete in what it does.
I found the only way to remove it, barring a format was by doing a system restore. Give this a try first, hopefully it should work.
Personnally I'll stick with separate apps to do the job.
I use Macafee Corperate, spybot, adaware, CCleaner and sit behind a big hardware firewall.
Works like a dream for me, so Micro$oft can keep (NO)onecare(s) especially as you have to pay a monhly fee to use it.

You can't - it's for XP only and you have Win98 which will no longer be supported on July 11 2006.

Actually guys thanks for the info. And right now I am sticking with the onecare stuff at least till the trial expires, as I am not too keen on putting Norton Back in since after it found the same virus twice in java code(I guess) it blocked my java from running at all which stopped me from being able to access my emails on sites. Not to mention a lot of other junk I play with in here... BUT anyway thanks for the advice... I am definitely better informed than I was.

    Hi,
    You are quite welcome.
But, after the trial is over, I would not let my computer online without some protection. You will have to make a decision.
    Best of luck.
