    Potty Training
I have been having a hard time getting my 3 1/2 year old son potty trained. He will go pee in the toilet, but he will not poop. He will go peep in the toilet then go and poop in his pants. I have tried everything! Anyone please help. I don't want him starting pre-school still potting in his pants.

Had the same thing happen to my son. What I did was show him all the big boys on TV and say very casually that none of them poop in there pants. He thought about it a little while and gave up on pooping in his pull ups. It's a control thing. Also bribary does work.

My son is nearing 3 1/2 as well and he's just starting potty training, just the peeing part to begin with. This is our second child and I've learned that you can't rush these things, every child is on their own schedule. You can talk about it and make it available but if it's forced, or worse if you tie in negative reinforcement to NOT doing it then you will have a child with issues. Everyone should relax and let nature take its course.

Can you tell if he is going to go poop? I mean does he go and hide, can you tell be his face or by his actions? Can you catch him and ask him to go in the bathroom? Can you try having him wear underwear and not pull ups? The best thing I did was get rid of the pull ups and just watch real close for about a week, I figured out the routines and got it so when I knew he was going to go poop, I took him to the bathroom. Good luck! And yes, you have to be positive, poistive, positive!

I do have him wearing underwear. He hasn't worn pull ups now for a while. Yea, he will get very quit and run off somewhere and by the time that I notice he is quit or hiding somewhere he has already done it. I try bribaring him and that doesn't seem to work. I'm all out of Ideas.
