Consistency is the key. Always clean up their mess immediately and put them outside. If you catch them in the act, grab them up and rush them out. Let them know how serious you are about them going outside to do their business.

After a week or so, if they are still going inside, then they don't respect you. They know it's your house and they just don't care. Give them a reason to care by spending more quality time with them but make sure they know you're the boss.

Sometimes, an alpha roll is necessary. It's when you roll them over onto their back and hold them there while you tell them, firmly and in a raised voice, how displeased you are. Same thing a pack leader or alpha dog would do to put them in check.
