    Broken door?
I have asked the landlord to fix my front screened door last Monday due to the kids next door breaking it. I asked on thurs when it would be fixed and they replied that it was an easy fix and it would be done soon. Friday I had my big door open with screen shut my older son went out the front door and my youngest was playing on the floor in front of the door, anyway the glass fell out of the door due to it not being fixed I want to know if I can legally move without two months payment? Or just what my options are. Thanks nikki

You cannot just move owing 2 months rent and not expect the landlord to take you to court or to evict you for nonpayment of rent. Fixing of a screen door or not fixing a screen door has nothing to do with you owing rent. You must give your landlord 30 days notice that you are going to move to be legal. Screen door and storm door can be two separate matters. Have you contacted them and told them about the glass falling out of the door?

I don't owe anything back I am caught up, but in the lease it states you have to pay 2 months without a reason.

OK, I'm also confused - I don't understand the condition of the door. The screen door was broken (you asked the landlord to fix it); it wasn't fixed; you had your big door (which I assume means the exterior door, inside the screen door) shut; your son went out the exterior door; the glass fell out of one of the doors - ?

What does your lease say? You might be hard pressed to prove that the glass fell out due to a repair not being made - if you knew there was a problem you had some responsibility for safeguarding your children... and the landlord's property.

You can always move and see if the landlord takes you to Small Claims Court OR you can stay until your lease is finished.

Not knowing what happened it's rather hard to say -
