    When does child support ends?
My husband's daughter will be turning 18 in Feb. She will be graduating in May.The court orders states, he pay until minor child. His ex wants him to pay for college. By all means, he wants to help but can not afford to. Does he just stop paying in May or does he contact the courts to let them know his daughter turn 18?

In some states the father must petition the court to stop the child support payments. You need to check with the child support agency in your area to see how this procedure is in your state. Some are automatic, some are not automatic. Just don't assume that he can stop paying in May until you check it out. If the court orders in the divorce about the child support says nothing about paying for college, then he does not have to legally pay for college. If he wishes to voluntarily pay something, then it is up to him to do so unless the mother goes back to court and gets a court order stating otherwise.

And the mother may go back and ask the order be modified to continue though college. I am surprised most orders state 18 / or another age if they are in college.

He will not have to pay for college, at least not in the form of paying for school. However, in many states if the kid does go on to college then support stops at 21. I personally know one of my good friends in college received the support herself because she was in school and lived in the dorm so after she started college her mom stopped getting the money and she got it. Things like that really depend on the state and what the judge says but I don't know of any state that would make him pay for college itself (tuition, room & board, etc.)
