    Taxes filing extension for foreigner
    Dear Taxes Experts,

I am going back home to Ukraine on March 30. National Institutes of Health are supposed to send my 1042S form to my home address in Ukraine. I am just afraid that it won’t be enough time for me to file taxes. How can I get an extension for filing taxes? I don’t want to break any laws, and would like to ask the IRS to move deadline from April 15, 2008 to a later date.

Another question I would like to ask you—which online program can you recommend if I have 1042S (I know that some people experience problems with TurboTax having 1042S).

    Thanks,
    T.

As far as I can tell, NO tax software handles Form 1042-S well.

Assuming that you have a refund coming, do not worry about filing late, because it DOES NOT MATTER if you file late for them.

All penalties for the IRS and states are NOT for filing late, they are for PAYING late. Since you are getting a refund, you are all paid up!
