Work bench height
What would be a good average workbench height for a shelf in my shed?

It depends on what you will be using the bench for, whether you will be seated, and your height. I like the work to be at the level of my hands when held in a natural working position in front of me. I also don't like to bend over or look directly down when standing. Do a mock up and try it out.

It all depens how tall you are and what's more comfortable for you... :)

I'm 6'-3" and mine is at 42", my roommate is 5'6 and hates it, it is too tall for him. I built him a step stool.

My personal preference is to have one that is about the height of my elbows when I am standing and when my arms are hanging down at my sides.
