    Breaking a Lease in Florida
Can I legally break a lease in the state of Florida? Our family situation has changed and 2 members of our family are commuting 200 miles a day to work and other activities. We are wanting to move to the new city before our lease expires in 4 months.

You can always break the lease if you are willing to pay the penalties it states. Normally you will have to pay the rent due till they re-rent the unit. Also you may wish to ask the landlord what they would be willing to do

Leases are commonly broken in Florida. Sometimes if you have to relocate due to employment the landlord or rental company will reduce your buy out. Use tact when dealing with the manager. You must weigh out the cost of breaking the lease against the cost of travel then decide which is best.

Florida is one of a few states that allow the landlord to sit back and collect rent without trying to re-rent the property. Legally, you cannot break the lease because of a job change.
