Everyone has the same rights to a divorce in the US, and actually you may even be able to sue for support depending on your level of disability.

And by the way, he is a jerk, a couple marry for better or worst, sadly too many only want the better

He may not be a jerk, he just may be a part of this "shallow" society. Back in the old days, my grandparent were married and my grandfather took care of my grandmother for 20+ years through her Alzheimer's and up to the very day that she died with absolutely no help! What has happened to our society now days.

I'm so sorry that this has happened to you, but yes of course you have the same rights! You are a human aren't you? It is sad that it has come down to this, but you should get a good lawyer and try to get support or alimony (terms ?).

Hope everything works out for you.

    Fr_Chuck is right.

I don't think people realize that anything can happen. A person must first think before wedding another. 'Would I still live him/her if they became disabled?' It's easier said than done I suppose. At the moment of course a person would say yes to that question because it hasn't happened and they think/thought it never would.

Your husband is a complete a**. Most of the time I don't believe in divorce, and a couple can work out their problems. But it seems as if your hubby is done and over with, so unless you can meet his standards (sarcastic) then a divorce is fair. It shows what kind of heart he has. A cold one.

I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. As the others have said, you are entitled to be treated as anyone else would be in the situation of a divorce.

I say get a good lawyer and TAKE YOUR JERK OF A HUSBAND TO THE CLEANERS!

I agree with every one else!! I would NEVER leave my wife no matter what! I would happily take care of her forever knowing that she would do the same for me !

In today's disposable society this sort of thing is all too common. Just look at all of the "rest homes" for the old and infirm. People today do not want to take care of the elderly or sick. Speaks volumes for our values as a nation! Just throw away those that are old, sick or injured because they cannot do all of the same things they used to any more. SICK.
YES, please get yourself a good lawyer and take him to the cleaners. Too bad you can't get him to tell you these things on tape. LOL, That would a riot to hear in court.

Hi all, the OP is my cousin. She has not given you background info, so I will. She is in her 30's and they have 3 children together, the youngest is 5. She also lives in Canada.

Sweetie, I agree with everyone, get a good lawyer, you have rights and you do not have to take this sitting down. You know I'll be here when you need me, and so will everyone else on this site, that's what we're here for.

Start a journal, like I told you today, write everything down that he says and does, this will come in handy later on. For now, just keep your chin up, you are made of tough stuff, I know you are, and you will get through this. Your friends and family are here to back you up, always, remember that.

    Love you Sweetie. :)

Well first of all what an . Baby girl you dealt with some hard stuff. You shouldn't have to please your man. I know you will have the same rights in the court as him. You should move on he doesn't deserve anything as good as you. He needs to go sleep in the garbage can.

There must be a specialized lawyer in your area who would be very happy to take on your case.
