    Wireless File Sharing
    Hi,

    I am going crazy. I've been working on connecting my two home computers wirelessly via a D-Link DIR-655 router (300 mpbs). Both computers also have a TrendNet 2.0 USB adapter (300 mpbs). I did the SSID and passphase via the Router and both computers recognized the Network Connection - so I can connect to the internet (although to my surprise, the remote computer's signal is weak) The final phase of this is to simply be able to share files and printers wirelessly. I am having a heck of a time doing this. I've done all of the proper sharing accesses under Vista Networking Sharing. I don't know what else to do to be able to see each computers files/printers on the other. Please, please help me someone. Could it be because I set up my dsl modem in bridged mode?:confused:

    So one computer is Vista and the other is what OS?

    Make sure they are on the same workgroup first.

    After that you can follow this guide:

    How can I check the workgroup to make sure they match?

    1. Right Click on your My Computer icon (or just Computer in vista)
    2. Click Properties from the context menu
    3. The information will be on the window that appears

    Thanks so much! I am new to Vista - I've done networking with XP. Actually, I am not near the two computers I mentioned at the moment. I'm hoping that this helps when I am able to try it later. My thoughts were that perhaps I need a GUI to support the wireless network so that I could see and manage the file sharing. But I was told that you shouldn't have to purchase additional software to manage file sharing. I don't know, I am just so frustrated. I thought this was an easy task. Someone also mentioned I may have to check my firewall settings. I've never been proficient at that - do you have a clear cut way to cover all areas when checking firewall settings?

    Should I be doing a ad hoc as opposed to an infrastructure for file sharing? I heard ad hoc is not as secure
