Is it a tax lien you actually owe? If it is there by mistake you contact the credit agency and report it as a error. If you actually owe it, the only way to get it off will be to pay it.

Tax liens can be a particularly tough item to get removed from your credit report quickly. Depending on the situation, and the state you are in, it may take about 7 years before you can have it removed.

Some question any professional will want to know are:
    1. Is the claim on your credit a valid one? Were you actually late paying your taxes?
    2. Have you paid the taxes current, or are you still delinquent? If you're still delinquent then I would suggest taking care of that before worrying about your credit report.
    3. If you're current on the taxes, but you were late in the past then how delinquent were you? If you were even a couple days late and that's what is being reported then you may not be able to get it removed.

Being late on taxes is not a good thing. Unlike a credit card company taxes go to the government. When a mortgage company looks to loan money they want to make sure the taxes get paid FIRST! If the mortgage gets paid, but not the taxes, the government can foreclose on the property through a public sale and the lender can lose out big time. This in one reason bying tax leins is popular with investors -- the lien gets paid off before the mortgage does.

Hope this helps, but I need more info before I can give better advise.

Dear Fr_Chuck, WOW! That was quick. Thank you. She got this judgement after I'd moved. I knew nothing about it until Feb of this year. I didn't go to court because I knew nothing about it.
