I am working on a basement project with a 1/2 bath which is being pumped up to the septic line. What is the best way to vent this system? Can I tap into existing drainpipe in the basement? I am thinking of tapping in on top of the pipe with a 90 to reduce the possibility of the system backing up into the pump.

Hey Mike:

If this is a sewage ejector then depending on your state's code requirements, you will most likely need to vent the ejector pit into attic and vent through roof by itself (full size 2" pipe)..or may be able to connect vent into other vent in attic.

You cannot connect the vent from sewage ejector to any pipe in the basement.

YOU MAY connect 2" vent from 1/2 bath plumbing into 2" vent in basement if there (called a future vent..would see FV on pipe with cap) or will also need to take this to 1st floor bathroom (connect into 2" vent or larger at least six inches higher than level of the sink) or may need to run this to attic full size as well.

This is all required by code in most states... let me know if need more info. Or if have questions... Mark

The unit that I am installing is by Saniflo not a traditional pit. Does this change anything? If not how about an AAV which I just read about?

It does change everything... ;) Where is the instruction book that came with the unit..? And what particular model... saniplus... sanibest..

The book says that the unit must be vented in the US. For European use it apparently is acceptable to use a small hole on the top of the unit. Does this help?

For this system... need to tie all vents together and then connect the one 1.5" vent from this 1/2 bath to any 1.5 " vent you can find in basement (such as a vent from a sink or washing machine... 1/2 bath vent needs to connect into sink/washing machine vent at least six inches higher than the flood level of the sink or washing machine). If no vent in basement, may need to run this vent to the first floor bathroom and connect into vent system there (or, unfortunately, may be easier to connect this in attic).

You cannot connect these vents into a waste pipe... must be a vent system.
