Okay listen people that is not a sense of insecurity because a person wants to buy a gun!! Insecure is when you stay around negativity, abuse, hatred, racism, etc... If a person can handle a gun then so be it!! A another thing we have more crime is because they have taken prayer out of the schools and paddling!! Everyone who owns a gun in the US doesn't shoot out of random and crazed authority!! You can have self control when operating a Gun!! I never said kill someone I said shoot him in the leg!! But so typical of whoever is taking what I said and turning into some Horror Deranged Movie!! Now who is insecure now or showing some sign of insercurity, whoever doesn't like what I said!! Keeping it Real!!

I completely agree with this and that's coming from a person who grew up in Sweden, and is now living in the UK-both countries having very strict gun laws.

Weapons,of whatever kind do give you a false sense of security and risk being used where other measures would suffice.

Patty, no one is condeming your beliefs, just everyone is entitled to their own opinions on the subject. When there is such a diverse amount of people from various walks of life and regions you are going to get a difference of opinion. I've taken a lighter version of what I believe and think of guns, but I have a very strong opinionated view of them.. but they are indeed my opinions, however in a forum topic that isn't a: dedicated to the discussion of the pros and cons of using guns and b: we're meant be offering guidance to the OP then I'll take the lighter side of life on them.

Sometimes its best to stand by what you mean, mean what you say and let others say what they want. I understand the need to at times jump up and down, strangle a few and sit staring at my monitor thinking 'you idiot', but curb my want to say so... (sometimes) rather than accuse others thoughts on turning it into a horror movie.

Soooooooo, about that new horror flick out with ninja rabbits terrorising psychos with spoons...

Same here. I guess I started this debate by disagreeing that the OP should buy a gun.

Being in Canada, guns are not common place. Is it a coincidence that there's less crime, less murder, less accidental deaths? Something to think about.

Guns are a huge responsibility, and should not be purchased just because you're scared. A scared person is much more likely to shoot the innocent mailman the she is to shoot the person that's causing the fear.

Also, this man hasn't given the OP any reason to purchase a gun yet. Heck, he hasn't even done anything to warrant a restraining order.

Will he? It's possible. But until the OP comes here telling us that he's stalking her, threatening her, showing up on her doorstep, there's really no reason for anyone to suggest that she purchase a weapon. Even if he does start doing these things, a gun is the last suggestion I would make. But then, that's my opinion.

I just think that way too many people jump to the "buy a gun" suggestion, when there are other things that can be done that are a lot safer, for both parties and the general public.

I suggest that you think before you post. No one has been unkind to you. I understand that you're angry because we disagree with your suggestion, but that's no reason to start acting the way you're acting.

Difference of opinion is going to happen. This site has over 800,000 members, not everyone is going to agree.

Instead of listening to why we disagree, and then having a reasonable discussion, stating why you believe what you believe, proving your argument in a reasonable way, you're taking our posts as a personal attack, which is not what anyone intended.

If you cannot politely disagree, then perhaps it's best to unsubscribe from this thread.

In the interest of keeping it real, this discussion about the merits of gun control, and personal opinions directed at each other, and not the OP, gets this thread closed!

    That's what PM's are for.
