Does a landlord have to change the locks before he rents to new tenant?
I moved into an apt. about 2 weeks ago. Last night I could tell that someone had been in my apartment. When I asked my landlord if he had been there, he said NO, but that someone who used to rent the apartment had come back and not realized that the apartment was rented out to someone else. Which, that is bogus, because my belongings are in there AND, whoever this past tenant was,. he saw fit to use my restroom. At any rate, my landlord said he would TRY to get the locks changed in a few days because the old tenant must have used his key. I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT THE LOCK SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHANGED BEFORE I EVER MOVED IN. Can someone tell me if this is legal or what? I live in Covington, Kentucky and I would appreciate any help possible.
